Uncorked privacy policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Uncorked keeps track of the wine you have at home. This page says what it does with your data.
What stays with you
- Your cellar (wines, bottles, rows, stars, notes and your Journal) is stored on your iPhone and in your own iCloud account, so it’s on any iPhone you sign in to. The developer can’t see your iCloud data.
- When Uncorked doesn’t know a file’s columns, Apple’s on-device model reads them. The file isn’t sent anywhere.
- Uncorked has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your data is never sold or shared.
What is sent to read labels and look up wine
Uncorked sends photos and wine names only when you add a photo, set up storage from a photo, or a wine is looked up, as below.
- When you add a photo, Uncorked sends it through Uncorked’s server to OpenAI to read the labels. Photos you take in Uncorked are deleted after you add the wine or cancel. Photos you pick from your library stay in your library; Uncorked deletes its own copy. A photo that can’t be read yet (offline, or no reads left) waits in Uncorked until it can.
- When you set up your storage from a photo, Uncorked sends that photo the same way to see your fridges, racks and shelves. It doesn’t name the wines in it. Uncorked keeps only the drawing it makes, not the photo.
- A wine keeps only a small crop of its label, on your iPhone and in your iCloud.
- To find a wine’s drinking window, grapes and price, Uncorked sends its producer, name, vintage and size the same way, and OpenAI searches the web. While you have bottles of a wine, Uncorked looks up its price again every six months.
- OpenAI doesn’t train its models on these requests. How long it keeps them is in OpenAI’s rules for API data.
What Uncorked’s server keeps
The server passes each request on and keeps no photos and no wine names. It keeps:
- Your subscription’s purchase id (from Apple, the same on each of your devices), which plan it is, and how many bottle reads, lookups and price checks it has used this period.
- An id for each device’s App Attest key, which proves requests come from the real app, and when each device last used the subscription (a subscription works on up to five devices).
- The day’s total cost of all requests, with no link to who made them.
It doesn’t know your name, your email or your Apple ID. To have the server’s record for your subscription deleted, write to the contact address below with the date you subscribed.
Subscriptions
Reading photos and looking up wine need a subscription, with a free week first. Payment, renewal and refunds are handled by Apple. Typing in a wine, importing a file, Tonight, the Journal, Cellar stats and iCloud sync work without one.
Notifications
“Ask how it was” is on unless you turn it off in Settings. It schedules a reminder on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to a server.
Removing your data
Settings › Your cellar › Erase cellar erases every wine, bottle and Journal entry, on your iPhone and in your iCloud. Your fridge layout stays. Deleting the app removes what’s on your iPhone, but not your iCloud copy. Erase your cellar first to remove that.
